Telfair Museums’ PULSE Art and Technology Festival returns for its 18^th year with a must-see exhibition and lecture by pioneering electronic artist Jim Campbell, a showcase of projects by local artists working in new media, and programs for all ages. The festival kicks off with a member’s opening and lecture by Jim Campbell, and a showcase of art and projections by local artists. Friday’s schedule includes a tech talk for students grades 4 and up, a curator’s tour, and an Art and Film night with a classic sci-fi anime screening. The festival ends Saturday with a workshop for youth, a Free Family Day with game demonstrations, family art making, and a cool, new performance by the Tybee Ballet Theatre.

PULSE Local Projects: Certified Humans (January 16 – February 10)

Telfair presents an annual showcase of selected projects by Savannah-based artists working with video, AI, and interactivity. Artists include Joshua Alexander, Michael Betancourt, James Gladman, Kelley McClung, and Sharon Norwood. Video projections by Will Penny and other artists will be shown in the Jepson Center during the two festival evenings.

January 17, 11am PULSE STEAM Talk for Students with Tybee Ballet Theater

The directors of the Tybee Ballet Theater will speak with students about their collaborations with artists and use of technology in a range of stage productions. January 17, 2pm Curator’s Tour

Harry DeLorme, Director of Education and Senior Curator, will lead a highlights tour of current PULSE exhibitions and artist projects. Free admission for Telfair Members.

January 17, 6:00pm PULSE Art and Film Night. Screening of Katsuhiro Otomo’s Steamboy             

Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) directed this classic, steampunk anime feature brimming with stunning images. The tale is set in Victorian England, where villains target a boy inventor when he receives a metal ball that can destroy mankind. Featuring the voices Anna Paquin, Alfred Molina, Patrick Stewart. (126 minutes, rated PG-13)

January 18, 10am Workshop: LED Light Sculptures (ages 10-16)

Inspired by the featured PULSE exhibition, students will create a colorful, wall-hung LED light sculpture. Limited capacity, registration is required.

1-4pm Family art making activities, artists’ demonstrations, performance

Enjoy the new PULSE exhibitions, hands on art-making activities for families, and demonstrations by local video game makers. The afternoon includes a featured performance at 3pm by Tybee Ballet Theater. *Free to residents of Beaufort, Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Jasper, and Liberty Counties.
